What inspired you to pursue a career in Information Technology, and what brought you to this program?
It was mostly chance, I was trying out a few things at the time, then my mom heard about this program and suggested I try it.
As an adult learner, what challenges have you overcome while balancing school, work, or family responsibilities?
While I was competing in SkillsUSA my Grandmother who was living with us fell and broke her hip, so when we got the Gold medal for regionals, I gave her mine while I went to compete at State and when she tried to protest I told her "Don't worry I'm going to go get a bigger one" showing her the new medal from State was one of the proudest moments in my life, after she passed in march of 2024 we never found that little medal from regionals. I like to think she took it with her.
Can you share a IT skill, project or event you've worked on that you're proud of?
My sister was having trouble with her work because she needed a new laptop but could not afford to buy one, so I fixed up an old computer, turned it into a Chromebook and gave it to her, it was not difficult but I was glad to be able to help her.
What advice would you give to other adults thinking about returning to school or switching to a tech career?
The hardest part is the test, when you are working on a computer hands on it feels great to always another thing to try if you original solution doesn't work puzzle solvers WANTED.
Where do you see yourself in the IT field one year from now—and how is this program helping you get there?
Well I have put an application in to a place and I am cautiously hopeful about the apprenticeship program, so hopefully a job, and this program is giving me valuable experience in the meantime.
