Chromebook loaners are available for students at the Ave J campus and Ave S campus (TechCenter).

You cannot take multiple classes unless there is a special circumstance that has been agreed upon with instructor. This ensures our students are successful with the content and passing.

Special circumstances are only with prior or existing IT professionals. Contact instructor to setup a meeting (lmoreno@avhsd.org).

All new students to IT are required to enroll in the the A+ (IT Support Specialist) course.

The A+ is the foundational/core training and skills needed to successfully complete the other speciality certifications (Network+ & Security+).

Yes.

Your class registration includes one (1) certification exam voucher for CompTIA. A+ students received two (2) for Core1 and Core2.

If you did not pass your exam the first time, students will need to pay for additional exams. Your cost is reduced by 50%, as we are a CompTIA Academy.

All classes are one (1) semester long. The AV Adult Education is part of the AV High School District, and thus follow their school calendar.

The focus of our training goals are entry level certifications. We currently only offer certifications from CompTIA, with only the core certifications as these by far the most requested by employers.

Our partners at Antelope Valley College offer other IT certifications from different vendors and degree options.

Adult Education requires that students are 18 years of age. High School students that are 18, can enroll.

Students will need to email the instruction to initiate contact (lmoreno@avhsd.org). This will entail a quick interview and Q/A.

Two sides of the same coin, but different no less.

Computer Science is software development (code), while Information Technology is technology support. CS requires a degree where entry level IT requires certification.  CS requires high math skills, IT requires troubleshooting.

Yes

This is an online class with a comprehensive training suite that includes virtual simulations and virtual machine labs. Students not local in the AV can still meet the in person lab requirements by doing the labs at home.

Our CompTIA certification courses include, one (1) certification voucher as part of your class registration:

• To request - see Discord classroom server for link to Google Form or Discord DM instructor.
• A code will be emailed back to you, with instructions and testing tips.
• A+ class includes 2 vouchers (1 for Core1 + Core 2).

All students must provide their own transportation.

LA County cities offer a free GoPass Program for Metro bus and train access. Look for the school - 'Antelope Valley Union High School District FSI'.

Pre Apprentice Program

• This program can be added by enrolled students and is a separate program from the certification training.
• Requires enrollment in IT Certification course.
• Prepares students for entry into paid apprenticeship. Required for entry to Apprenticeship Program.
• Non paid.
• Students work at the TechCenter for work experience hours.

Apprenticeship Program

• This program is a separate program from the certification training.
• Requires Pre Apprentice Program completion
• Students are employed by employers and work on the job training for 2,000 hour (1 year - full time).
• Paid

How to get to TechCenter.

1. Head EAST on Ave S from Hwy 14.
2. Past Sierra Hwy.
3. About 1 block east of Sierra Hwy, to the right are medical clinics. The first large one is Adult Education.
4. Make right on Swan Drive, drive to end of Swan.
5. End of swan, head to smaller white building.

Students applying for jobs, can request and receive a Letter of Reference from instructors:

• Instructors do NOT give out Letters of Recommendation - Specific and personalized. Written for a particular opportunity—a job, scholarship, school application, or program. Contains tailored examples of how the person’s skills and experience fit the exact role or goal.
• The reason for this is that it would not be fair for all students.
• A Letter of Reference - General and broad in scope. Describes the person’s character, skills, and experience without targeting a specific opportunity. Often used as a standing or reusable letter that can be given to multiple recipients.
